Grade Three

Third grade is a year of transformation and growing independence. As children become more aware of the world around them, they begin to ask deeper questions and seek a stronger sense of purpose and place. This shift is met with hands-on learning that grounds them in real-life experiences and fosters confidence in their abilities.

Through creation stories from cultures around the world, students explore themes of origin, change, and responsibility. In language arts, they strengthen their reading fluency, begin cursive writing, and practice storytelling, grammar, and composition. Math becomes practical, with a focus on measurement, money, and time—skills that help children engage more meaningfully with daily life.

Throughout the year, third graders engage in farming, gardening, and shelter-building projects, offering a tangible sense of self-sufficiency and connection to the earth. Music, movement, and handwork continue to support the integration of thinking, feeling, and doing. Gardening, field trips, and other outdoor experiences deepen their understanding of the natural world and their place within it.
