Kindergarten

Kindergarten at Back to Earth follows the principles of Waldorf education, honoring the belief that young children learn best through imaginative play, rhythm, and real-life experiences. Rather than rushing into formal academics, we focus on nurturing a love of learning and a deep sense of trust in the world—what Waldorf calls “imbuing the child with the sense that the world is good.”

We believe in fiercely protecting childhood—a fleeting, yet sacred time when curiosity, play, and presence take center stage. Our mixed-age kindergarten program is intentionally play-based, rooted in the rhythms of nature and the wisdom of slowing down. Rather than rushing into academics, we offer children the time and space to explore, observe, try new things, and simply be.

Abundant time outdoors in a natural environment allows children to develop the physical capacities that are essential precursors to academic learning—running, climbing, balancing, and digging. Indoors, a warm, home-like classroom provides an environment grounded in simplicity and rhythm, where children engage in meaningful work and imaginative play.

Kindergarten at Back to Earth is a sacred season—a time of wonder, warmth, and joyful discovery. It’s where children are given the time and space to grow at their own pace, surrounded by beauty, rhythm, and love. By honoring childhood and following its natural unfolding, we help children grow into confident, curious, and compassionate individuals—rooted in a sense that the world is good.
