Grade Six
Sixth grade marks a significant step in a child’s development as students grow into greater independence, strength, and clarity of thinking. As their inner life shifts toward a more grounded and practical engagement with the world, students are ready to explore themes of structure, responsibility, and cause and effect.
The curriculum reflects this change through the study of Roman and Medieval history, offering a clear picture of law, leadership, and social order. In mathematics, students deepen their work with fractions and decimals while moving into percentages, business math, and introductory algebraic thinking. Geometry becomes more precise through the use of a compass and a ruler, strengthening accuracy and confidence in logical processes.
Science studies introduce physics through hands-on experimentation with sound, light, heat, and magnetism, alongside continued work in geography, astronomy, and mineralogy. Language arts emphasize greater independence in writing, including structured compositions, reports, and practical forms such as business letters.
Throughout the year, artistic and practical work in music, movement, and handwork continue to support balance and resilience. Sixth grade invites students to meet the world with growing confidence, discernment, and a sense of responsibility as they prepare for the next stage of learning.
