Grade Four

Fourth grade is a time of newfound independence and curiosity as children begin to emerge from the dreamy landscape of early childhood and step more firmly into the world around them. This stage brings a growing sense of self and a desire to understand how they relate to others, nature, and their community.

This year’s curriculum meets these developmental changes with rich and meaningful content. Norse mythology and hero tales provide mirrors for students’ inner journeys, offering stories of courage, transformation, and moral choice. The study of local geography and mapmaking helps students orient themselves in their physical surroundings, while the comparative study of humans and animals deepens their appreciation for both the uniqueness and interconnectedness of life.

Academically, students refine their reading and composition skills, strengthen grammar and handwriting, and take on more complex math work, including fractions and decimals. In science, they explore the animal kingdom and observe adaptations that allow creatures to thrive in diverse environments. Artistic expression continues through painting, handwork, music, and movement, integrating learning with creativity.
