Grade One

First grade is a time of wonder, imagination, and discovery—when children take their first steps into formal learning while still held in the warmth of a nurturing, play-filled environment.

At Back to Earth, we honor this important transition by grounding our first grade curriculum in rhythm, nature, and story. Through the magic of fairy tales and nature stories, children begin to explore the foundations of literacy, numeracy, and social development in a way that speaks to their whole being—head, heart, and hands.

Children are introduced to letters and numbers through story, movement, form drawing, and hands-on activities. Reading and writing begin with an emphasis on sound, shape, and story. Math is brought to life through nature-based counting, the qualities of numbers, and the four processes (addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division). These early academic foundations are built gently and artistically, respecting each child's developmental readiness.
